What is the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning? A Working Example: Developing a Knowledge-Expertise Taxonomy for Mathematics
by Curtis Bennett, Loyola Marymount University
In this talk, Professor Bennett will provide an introduction to the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) in mathematics using a knowledge-expertise taxonomy for student learning in mathematics. He will use the development and application of the taxonomy to describe how to create and carry out a SoTL project in mathematics. The knowledge-expertise taxonomy breaks student learning down into five cognitive and two affective dimensions, and can be used to both analyze student progress and frame courses.
